Speedtest by Ookla is a way of testing internet speed and performance. Ookla is a global company consisting of fixed broadband and mobile network testing applications. Ookla SpeedTest awards Banglalink as the fastest mobile network in Bangladesh in Q1-Q2 2020. The methodologies of giving speed award are:
LOCATION & PROVIDER:
- Nomination will be given to the operators who can serve a minimum threshold of the number of unique devices
- Testing over service will happen each day over a six month period for a geographic area
- By considering these indicators, Ookla ensures that selection is given to operators whose services are available to and used by a significant number of the population in a location
SAMPLE CONSTRUCTION AND AGGREGATION-
- Samples are created to manage for variables and justify that each unique consumer receives fair representation in the data
- Again,Ookla aggregates user-initiated tests by measuring Speedtest after they have taken a ‘sample construction’ process
- Sample construction provides mean data points that can be used for further statistical analysis
SPEED SCORE:
Ookla detects the fastest internet speed in Bangladesh using:
- Speed Score which incorporates a measure of each provider’s download and upload speed to rank network speed performance
- They take speed scores proportion from the 10th percentile of initial test
- They take 50th percentile from median test
- Finally take 90th percentile from final test
- Then, combine scores in a weighted average using a 1:8:1 ratio
Overcoming all the regulations of above mentioned methodologies, Banglalink proved itself as the best 4G network in Bangladesh, as it won the Ookla speedtest award 2020. Banglalink has a speed of 15.09 Mbps, with average download speeds of 12.78 Mbps and average upload speeds of 6.73 Mbps, which are the fastest internet speed in Bangladesh.
Here is the comparison table of the speed of internet tested by Ookla between telecommunication industries in 2020:
Telecommunication Industry | Speed Score(Mbps) |
Banglalink | 15.09 |
Grameen Phone | 11.25 |
Robi | 10.43 |
Airtel | 10.25 |
GP | 6.04 |

Let’s see some strategies that why Banglalink is the fastest internet:
Following table shows the download and upload speed of telecommunication careers measured by ookla speed test award in 2020:
Carrier Name | DownloadTrimean | 90thPercentile | 50thPercentile | 10thPercentile | UploadTrimean | 90thPercentile | 50thPercentile | 10thPercentile |
Banglalink | 15.90 | 32.07 | 15.41 | 3.79 | 7.76 | 17.91 | 7.28 | 1.45 |
GP | 11.69 | 29.87 | 10.53 | 1.77 | 8.22 | 18.95 | 7.72 | 1.50 |
Robi | 10.78 | 30.72 | 9.47 | 1.31 | 7.27 | 18.90 | 6.61 | 0.98 |
Airtel | 10.63 | 29.64 | 9.40 | 1.52 | 6.81 | 18.98 | 6.02 | 0.98 |
Teletalk | 6.38 | 16.93 | 5.54 | 2.49 | 3.06 | 7.88 | 2.75 | 0.74 |
Ookla Speed Test examines the fastest carrier using Speed Score which adds a measure of each provider’s download and upload speed to rank network speed performance (90% of the final Speed Score is attributed to download speed and the remaining 10% to upload speed). The Speed Score uses a modified trimean to demonstrate the download and upload speeds that are available across a provider’s network. Then they take speeds from the 10th percentile, 50th percentile (also known as the median), and 90th percentile, and combine them in a weighted average using a 1:8:1 ratio, respectively.
